Hector Guzman and your Plano Symphony Orchestra open the 2011 – 2012 season with "The Virtuoso Piano" - a celebration of Franz Liszt's 200th birthday. Opening Night features the Plano Symphony Orchestra tradition of two major piano concertos on one evening. Liszt's virtuoso Piano Concerto No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by Norman Krieger. This exceptional pianist began his training in Los Angeles and became a full scholarship student of Adele Marcus at the Juilliard School at the age of 15. He studied with the famed Alfred Brendel in London, and was awarded an artist's diploma from the New England Conservatory. Mr. Krieger is one of the most acclaimed pianists of his generation. He regularly appears with the major orchestras of the world, including the New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Pittsburgh orchestras. The performance opens and closes with the orchestra playing two of Liszt's most appealing, electrifying and famous works – the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and Mephisto Waltz.
