Gershwin: Excerpts from "Porgy and Bess"
The Young Artist Concerto Performances

When it was completed in July, 1935, the 700 pages of "Porgy and Bess" represented Gershwin's most ambitious creation and his favorite composition. According to David Ewen, Gershwin's first biographer, Gershwin "never quite ceased to wonder at the miracle that he had been its composer. He never stopped loving each and every bar, never wavered in the conviction that he had produced a work of art." Plano favorite Donnie Ray Albert joins Hector Guzman and soprano Pamela Dillard in excerpts from Catfish Row – the setting for Gershwin's beloved "Porgy and Bess." The subscription performance also features the winners of the Collin County Young Artist Competition, which has now become one of the highlights of the season according to feedback from many Plano Symphony Orchestra patrons. The concerto performances by these young artists have proved to be nothing short of astounding.
